Former New England Patriots tight end and convicted killer Aaron Hernandez was found dead in his prison cell early Wednesday morning, according to officials.
Around 3:05am on Wednesday at Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center, Hernandez was found by correctional officers hanging in his cell.
Before rushing Hernandez to UMass Leominster, correctional officers rendered life-saving techniques. These techniques were to no avail, and Hernandez was pronounced dead at 4:07am.
According to officials, a bed sheet attached to his cell window was used to asphyxiate himself in his single occupant cell in general population.
Officials also stated that the jail cell door had been jammed in an effort to prevent correctional officers from gaining access to the cell and stopping him.
Officials at Souza-Baranowski claim that there were no concerns the Hernandez was planning to kill himself. If there was any word that he was planning on killing himself, he would had been taken to a mental health unit.
The New England Patriot are aware of his suicide, but are declining to comment.
Hernandez was serving a life-sentence for killing Odin Lloyd in 2013.
On Friday, Hernandez was acquitted in a 2012 double killing that prosecutors said he committed after one man allegedly spilled a drink on him.
