Ep 351 – The Carter Interview Part II

Josh Carter sticks it out for a full two hours in the studio with Tim. (The first hour is available HERE.) The two chat about how social media is changing our culture, and the question of whether tech giants like Google, Facebook, and Twitter, should be regulated as public utilities.

What is a monopoly and how do they emerge? Contrary to popular belief monopolies do not occur in the free market! Here’s how it works…

A business is the sole supplier of a product. Because he has no competition and people want his product, he increases prices and achieves enormous profits. Other businessmen see the profits he’s getting, and jump into the same industry, thereby defeating the “monopoly”. More competitors come into the industry, increasing competition, and driving prices down.

Get it? Got it? Good!

If you want change in social media, become an owner of social media. Buy stock in their company and change things. Can’t afford that? Invest in alternative social media by opening accounts on other sites, posting videos to pages other than YouTube. Be the change you want to see in the world. Don’t expect government to do it for you.
