Tim Preuss addresses the ever more popular idea of reparations, which are now being openly embraced by three Democratic Presidential contenders. The story goes that due to slavery, blacks in America have never had the same opportunities as whites.
This of course assumes that we reject decades of history both after the Civil War and BEFORE the Civil Rights Movement when black unemployment was lower than white unemployment. Blacks graduated at similar rates as whites. Black out-of-wedlock birth was not the norm. The living standard of blacks was rising relative to that of whites. All of this progress happened BEFORE government intervention.
The terrible condition of the “black community” is not the legacy of slavery, but rather is the legacy of welfarism, social interventionism, and BIG government.
