Master Sergeant Debra Clayton was shot and killed Monday by a man wanted for killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend in December. The man is Markeith Loyd, a 41 year old african-american felon. Clayton attempted to arrest him on January 9th at a WalMart when Loyd pulled a gun and fired at Clayton, hitting her three times.
After the initial shooting, a manhunt was underway. During this manhunt a second police officer was fatally, although accidentally, hit by a 71 yr old driver while on his police motorcycle.
More than a dozen schools were put on lockdown during the manhunt, which is still underway at the time of this writing. There is currently a $60,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Loyd. He is considered extremely dangerous, so police are telling the public NOT to approach him.
