The violence against police officers continues today as a officer Benjamin Marconi, 50, was shot twice in the head by a suspect who fled the scene.
Marconi was writing a traffic citation when a black sedan pulled up behind him police cruiser. A man, described as a black male between 5’7” and 6’0”, possibly with a beard, walked beside the car and fired once, directly into Marconi’s head. He then leaned into the car for a second shot.
Marconi was a 20 year veteran, and a sex-crimes detective; a dedicated father of two, as well as a grandfather.
A motive for the murder is not immediately known, although police speculate this was another incident of anti-police violence, similar to that seen in New York and Dallas.
