Police in Elkhart County Indiana are investigating a police involved shooting. Following a high speed chase that ended just after 11:00 Sunday night, a juvenile was shot and taken to the hospital.
Investigators say that following the witnessing of a traffic violation, the driver began speeding away from police. The chase ended when the car drove into a residential neighborhood and stopped in a yard. The teen then attempted to flee the scene on foot.
Witnesses say they heard 4-5 shots fired. Scott LePla, who’s yard was the ending of the chase said,
“There was probably four or five police officers out here. Two of their cars and the suspect’s car in my lawn and then mass confusion after that. Probably another 20 cop cars showed up.”
Police said in a statement that the officer involved in the shooting is on administrative leave. The juvenile, whose name has not been released, is in the hospital with serious injuries.
Due to the concealment of the identity of the teen it is unknown whether Black Lives Matter plans to protest in Elkhart County. BLM has not issued a statement on this incident.
