14 Year Old Charged with Sexual Assault on Facebook Live

A Chicago teen is being charged with sexual assault for an incident that involved himself and others sexual assaulting a young girl on Facebook Live. The charges included aggravated criminal sexual assault and manufacturing and disseminating child pornography. The 14 year old is among 5-6 young men who participated in the attack.

The victim, who’s identity has not been revealed, was dropped off near her home on March 19th and went missing soon after. She did not return home until March 21st, after the attack took place. Her family has since had to move due to ongoing threats and taunts.

Reports show that as many as 40 people watched the attack live on Facebook, including some adults, and none of them reported it to police. Instead, a teenager reported the incident to a relative of the girl’s family, Reginald King.

“There were adults who saw this. None of them had the wherewithal to say, ‘Hey, I gotta call someone’,” Mr King said.

A representative for Facebook said, “Crimes like this are hideous and we do not allow that kind of content.” Facebook Live has been used to broadcast several crimes as of late, including the shooting of a 2 year old boy, as well as video of four teens assaulting a 19 year old man with special needs.

Additional charges are expected on the other teens involved in the sexual assault.
