Terrorism is not as big a deal as the media would have us believe. Turn on Fox News or listen to conservative talk radio and we are made to believe that terrorism is a massive threat to American safety. Not just terrorism, but Islamic terrorism. (It’s a more bone chilling word when attached to a religion westerners aren’t familiar with.)
The same thing goes for the left, however. Turn on MSNBC after the shooting of a black teen by a white police officer, and we’re led to believe that the number one killer of black teens is racist cops. Sadly, on both accounts, our media lying and deliberately misleading people.
Why? Contrary to what the average conspiracy theorist would have you believe (they have an agenda too), it’s just for ratings. People tune in when the issue is emotional for them. MSM plays to people’s emotions – anger, fear, hatred. It’s ugly and wrong. But if terrorists and racist police departments aren’t the biggest threat to Americans, what is?
It’s something that we all know, but almost no one acknowledges – ourselves. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the #1 killer for Americans is heart disease. The number one cause of heart disease is lifestyle choices – unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, drinking, smoking. Heart disease – the majority of which is self inflicted – killed over 600,000 Americans last year.
In the top 10, neither terrorism or police shootings are listed. What is listed is suicide. Americans are more likely to kill themselves, than be killed by a terrorist or a police officer.
Consider for a moment that since 2001, around 3,350 Americans have been killed by terrorists (not including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan). In 2016 alone, police in America fatally shot 963 Americans. Yes. That’s true. Americans are more likely to die at the hands of police than terrorists.
Even more shocking, in 2016 42,773 Americans committed suicide. Americans are far more dangerous to themselves than police and terrorists combined!
